Listening to Kurt Vile’s new album “(watch my moves)”, full of his characteristic sliding guitar, is like floating on your back in water, in the last of the summer’s warmth, oscillating between bliss and the concern that at any moment u might bang your head on a rock. Mostly just floating, “for a whiiiiiiiile”. There’s lots of time for it in these lawng songs with harmonies rippling and flowing. No chlorine or cocktails in sight. Just mud to wiggle your toes in and maybe a dragonfly? “Who’s to saaaaay?” This might sound stupid (“I don’t miiiiiiiind”), but I wanna describe it as an unselfconscious expression of selfconsciousness. It’s honest and sometimes melancholic (in the precious, curious sense (my fave))) but always playful, musical beingness. It’s adorable! I’m grateful for people baring themselves and having fun, revealing healing and hurt. It makes my head buzz with ideas about how I might do it too, and in the most passive of listens, at least just feelings that lay a soothing foundation.

Even if I’m wrong
Even if I’m wrong
Gonna sing-a-my song
’Til the break of dawn like “Woo!”
(From Fo Sho)

Painful calculations bruise my brain in the pouring rain
(Like Exploding Stones)

Going on a plane today
Listening’ to “Heart of Gold”
Gonna open up for Neil Young
Man, life can sure be fun
Imagine if I knew this when I was young
Too
(Going On A Plane Today)

In KV’s own words from his instagram:

I realized at some point I write music tailored for obsessives (like myself) and sensitive souls (I’m sensitive!) …life is beautiful, man, but life is heavy: but I love you.

Yeppp I can feel it!
